RE: City of Finlayson launches new website domain – finlayson.gov

Visitors to the City of Finlayson’s (the City) website will find that it has moved to a new address, with all services now located at www.finlayson.gov. The previous address, https://finlayson.municipalimpact.com/ will still direct users to the City’s website during the transition, and all services available to users online will remain unchanged.

.Gov domains are critical to providing access to public services. They are different because they are only available to U.S.-based government organizations, making it easy to identify governments on the internet. Use of .gov helps reduce uncertainty.

Registering as a .gov domain requires an entity to submit evidence to the U.S. Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) that they are truly registering on behalf of a legitimate local, county or state government. The new .gov domain also makes it more difficult for malicious actors an scammers to co-opt government websites. Using less secure domains, such as .com, allows cyber criminals and malicious actors to more easily impersonate government officials in attempts to defraud the public.

The new domain is a part of a long-range initiative to increase security and counter disinformation.
